Sundays are PRIME for starting out the week on a good note because lezbehonest who has time to fret during a busy week???

What’s worse than going to work without a healthy packed lunch? Realizing that you could save SO MUCH MONEY if only you did a little prepping on a Sunday afternoon. Literally an hour💁🏼‍♀️

Then your fridge is stocked with healthy lunches for the week, and you feel good that you’re not killing your body with KFC and your pocket with over-priced lunches.

It’s a win-win! One of my faves is this dish right here👉🏻 a massive pot of this flavorful as heck chicken curry. Basically, it’s awesome because I use deboned chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts - which are 100% a win! And it’s jam-packed with veggies and zero artificial junk🙌🏻 So you can give yourself a big self-5 for nutrition and flavour✋🏻 .

This little baby is actually one of my staple EASY, HEALTHY weekday meals! It’s delish guys! Aaaaand pretty awesome as a packed work lunch too💪🏻 .
What I do:
🥘 freeze lean mince in 100g servings
🥘 small portions make it super easy to defrost in case you forget to take it out the night before
🥘 cook the mince in its own juice with a little chopped onion, 3 whole tinned and peeled tomatoes, a little of the juice, a tsp garlic, a dash of paprika, salt and a few optional chili flakes
🥘 add a large handful of baby spinach and cook till wilted
🥘 serve over a sweet potato however you like (it cooks for 5 minutes in the microwave if you don’t have time to boil or bake)
🥘 even add a little avocado👌🏻yum! Here in the pic I added a tbsp lite mayo.

This is actually my first workout pic on this account - I’ve decided it’s time I become accountable for the effort I’m putting into staying fit and eating healthy. Because let’s face it, I’m not about that all the time ☝🏻

Nope! This BOD loves wine, beer, chocolate and a whole lotta other so-called unhealthy things. And to be quite frank, ever since I’ve ALLOWED my body those things in moderation, kept it fit, and fed it with nutrients - it’s rewarded me💪🏻 .
Also - this is my first week back at gym😃 So happy to be back after months of home workouts! Loved it - but definitely a lot harder to stay motivated 😳 .

Last night Andrew and I had the most amazing date night at Cafe Paradiso on Kloof! Can’t believe we haven’t been there before😱 .
🌟FOOD: Honestly, I was very impressed with the menu - very seldom do I want to order most of the mains on the menu! And they probably have something to suit everyone’s taste. Anyway, I went with the ostrich fillet of the day, which came with perfectly creamy mashed potatoes and a nice little salad flavoured with blue cheese. I asked for medium rare - and the first piece was cooked perfectly, although the second piece was slightly gaar. Andrew ordered the meatball pizza, and said it didn’t really blow him away (we’ve had some pretty good pizzas!).
🌟SERVICE: Very efficient and friendly! We booked and spoke to a really helpful girl on the phone, and got a lovely table in the garden outside. Food came really quickly, although our first beers took a while to come.
🌟ATMOSPHERE: I loved it! Totally my vibe, there are lovely twinkly lights in the garden, and the tables aren’t squished together. Inside is also nice and cozy. I also loved the sociable vibe the restaurant had!
🌟PRICE: My mains was reasonably priced, although Andrew thought the pizza was overpriced (R140). We also saved money on wine by bringing our own and paying R50 corkage. Beers were over R50 (although we ordered craft).
🌟OVERALL: I loved this little joint for a date night occasion! It’s cozy and comfortable, and I love the outside setting with views of the mountain. Love that they offer corkage too🙌🏻 Defs wanna go back and try the beef rib eye😃🌟

I’ve really been trying to cater for most people’s tastes lately - which is always a challenge, but one I definitely welcome☺️ - mostly because I’m here to make eating ‘healthy’ and eating wholesome easy for most people🤗 .
Anyway, back to these glorious waffles - recently bought a waffle maker for SUPERR CHEAP, which obvss inspired this recipe🙈😂 just been thinking of all the yummy things I can make now!!! .
So if you don’t have a waffle maker, please don’t fret! You can just press them into rostis - but the waffle maker gets them nice and crispy😎👌🏻 a good investment if you ask me🌟 .

  • 💆🏼‍♀️MAKE TIME FOR ME-TIME💆🏼‍♀️

We’re in an age now, where most people are super aware of “SELF-CARE” and realise that it’s super important in our modern lifestyles, BUT how many of us actually practice it?
.
Don’t think I’ve even LOOKED at my nails in the last 2 months - never mind having them done! .
There’s just TOO MUCH going on, that I must admit, my LAST PRIORITY is myself. This is not actually a good thing. After a while, you realise 5 years have gone by, and you’ve done nothing for yourself - your hair makes you look homeless, and you’ve gained 10 kilograms!
.
This not only gives you squiff looks from people in the supermarket, but it’s bad for your BODY and MIND.
.
In my opinion, selfcare often means something different to everyone. .
For me, it means:
🌱Nourishing my body with whole foods, and minimal cr*p, so that it can perform optimally and repair itself properly. This means taking time to do meal-prep when necessary and putting effort into making a wholesome diet DELICIOUS! 🌱Eating should be ENJOYABLE! This is a more complicated point to explain, since I used to be chubby and a chronic dieter - I had an unhealthy relationship with food for a long time. Seeing food differently has changed my life drastically! This point relates mostly with my implementation of “intuitive eating” (more on that another time).
🌱Keeping my body fit, and therefore, healthy! By doing a few strenuous workouts a week, but also doing more enjoyable exercise like yoga for flexibility and walking for relaxation so that exercise does not become a chore.
🌱Eating out! My word, you won’t believe how much I enjoy having breakfast at cute little cafes on a Sunday morning! Suuuuch a big self-care element for me! I cook so often, that it’s sometimes nice to have food prepared FOR me ;p
🌱Time with friends and family. This may seem odd for self-care, but I must admit that I LOVE having regular catch-ups with friends and family to unwind. Sharing your life with others and discussing successes and problems is a great way to de-stress.
🌱Alone time. Finally, I need my alone time! For me, I need it early in the morning - to reflect on the day ahead. An hour and I’m good to go!
  • Let’s talk about LUNCH💁🏼‍♀️🥪

It’s so difficult eating healthy during the week for most people. And because many people don’t have the time to put aside to plan good lunches, they end up either spending a ton of money at Woolies for a healthy option, or end up fast-fooding it👎🏻
.
Meal prep doesn’t have to be this big SHLEP guys! And it also doesn’t have to be fancy to be healthy and exciting✨
.
As I’ve mentioned before, I work really hard to eat healthy during the week because most often we like trying new restaurants on the weekends (and honestly I have a weakness for the cheesy stuff haha). It’s hard to be consistently healthy during the week...it is!
.
To make things a little easier when life gets flippin busy, take some short cuts:
✨cook a big batch of brown rice for the week - a healthy starch full of nutrients
✨roast up a batch of chicken breasts and freeze the cooked breasts until the night before you need them. Also add some spices like paprika to make them flavorful!
✨cook a batch of mixes veggies every few days to add to the chicken and rice.
BOOM! Easiest healthy meal prep lunches for the week ever!
.
This can then be your staple healthy lunch💁🏼‍♀️ but to prevent getting bored you can mix and match protein sources: like adding some leftover braai meat or Bolognese to the rice. .
I usually stick to: 1/2 cup carbs (rice), 1 chicken breast, unlimited veggies 🌽 for AWESOME MACROS💪🏻

As much as I love my wine (and beer as of late), this account is all about living a healthy lifestyle...which begs the question:

IS IT HEALTHY TO DRINK ALCOHOL?🤷🏼‍♀️

This is where most people come atcha like ‘everything in MODERATION is good for you!’ ☝🏻HOLD UP just a sec...what the heck does ‘moderation’ mean? Like does that mean I can drink everyday but only for 3/24 hours? 😂
.
Let me give you my honest 2 cents on this topic: one glass of wine/one whisky/one beer per night is fine - you’re not overdoing it. Buttt it’s not okay if you’re also going to end up binge drinking cocktails on the weekend.
.
For me - I try to completely omit alcohol from my weekly diet, because I know I like drinking a little more on the weekend and over-consumption takes a toll on my gut health and fitness progress.
.
AND - I always try to stick to red wine, whisky and water, and sometimes beer - which are the best options for gut health and lower in calories🙌🏻 I even try avoiding the sugar-free mixes these days🙈
.
TAKEAWAY: moderation is good! And it means LISTEN to your body. You will know when it’s too much. The hard part is admitting it to yourself and putting your health first over a good jol✨ I definitely struggle with moderation too - it defs takes practice! Aaaaaand that’s why I’ve dedicated this account to pursuing it💪🏻😎

Yesterday, @andysteveynell and I had a lovely breakfast at this little joint in Wynberg. Let me tell you why...
.
✨SERVICE: Absolutely wonderful - and definitely the highlight for me. Our waitress was refreshingly friendly! The coffee didn’t take long to come, and our breakfast arrived while my coffee was 3/4 full.
✨FOOD: Really good, in my opinion. I mean the menu wasn’t your usual boring bacon and eggs and plain Eggs Benedict you get at most Cape Town places. They had 3 different Eggs Benedicts to suit your palate and diet (gluten-free and Banting), and they had some more “unusual” items too! Like my Shake a leg Shakshuka (even though it’s a known dish, I haven’t seen it on any breakfast menus in Cape Town). And thennnn if you really don’t know what to get, there’s even a build-your-own option. So breakfast options are fab! ✨ATMOSPHERE: Buzzing! Such a popular little cafe so I’m pretty sure it’s always busy. However, if you’re claustrophobic I wouldn’t recommend it. We sat in the little courtyard at the back, and were quite comfortable but inside looked a little tight. Plusss there’s a lovely little shop section that sells the nicest little things if you’re looking for gifts.
✨PRICE: A little bit more expensive than most breakfast places, however, our breakfasts were quite large and a little more on the unusual side. We paid R336 for two people (2 brekkies, 1 coffee and 2 juices). I thought it was a bit pricey but good value for money (I didn’t get that sick feeling you sometimes get when you’re paying R100 for egg on toast at some places).
✨WOULD I GO BACK? Setting wasn’t great, cozy but a little squished. But I’d defs go back to try another brekkie and enjoy the FAB service👌🏻
