SUGAR FREE Lindt Hot Chocolate

hot chocolate

It’s winter time!

Yes…okay…I’m sure I am stating the OBVIOUS. The point is, what is winter without hot chocolate?

Not winter at all – that’s what! The problem is getting into summer-body-shape AND drinking hot chocolate at the same time. Such a predicament, am I right?

Well, what if I told you that hot chocolate and summer bodies go hand in hand?

I created this hot chocolate for that exact purpose. I’m sure you’ve heard that Steri Stumpies are a fantastic post workout recovery drink if you don’t have access to a protein shake (because of an ideal ratio of carbs to protein). I wanted a similar drink – only a HOT one. Yip! Chocolate and more chocolate after a hectic cardio session with some hot milk for a hit of protein and carbs. But you know me – I try and avoid sugar at all costs (unless in a totally worth it form of cake). In which case…there is NO sugar in this hot chocolate 🙂

Side note: Sugar isn’t always bad. In fact, after or before a hectic gym session sugar can actually be beneficial. So, if you’re making this as a post-workout  recovery drink – don’t feel bad about adding a bit of sugar to replenish muscle glycogen stores.

But if you’re making this as a treat – or for your daily hit of chocolate to satisfy that craving – you might want to leave out the sugar. I add some sugar-free (and aspartame free) hazelnut sweetener and (here’s the kicker) Lindt dark chocolate!

I’m sure many of you have received dark chocolate as gifts…and you’re thinking: “what the HECK do I do with this?! I can’t eat this stuff!”. Especially in the case of 80% and above. In my case – I LOVE dark chocolate. However, I had a slab of 99% cocoa solids (!!!!!!!!!!) and couldn’t even swallow the tiniest piece. It tasted like powdery and pure cocoa. This prompted me to make something I could actually use it in (and not gag). The stuff is amazing – too good to go to waste! So use it in this hot chocolate!

The Recipe

Super simple! Only add 3 ingredients to milk and PRESTO!

Optionally, you can also add some instant coffee for a hit of caffeine and turn this into a delicious MOCHA!

I like adding milk froth on top to serve – and whipped cream as a treat 😉

  1. Cool recipe. I love Lindt’s 99% chocolate. It’s best enjoyed with a cup of strong and good quality coffee. I let a block slowly melt on my tongue after I do.

  2. I’m all for hot chocolate, and I’d pick that over a summer body any day (that doesn’t mean I don’t feel guilty though). I’ve also been in the what-the-heck-do-I-do-with-this-90%-dark-chocolate-that-tastes-like-tar predicament, but never thought to use it in hot chocolate. I’m definitely going to try that. Thank you for the lovely post! x
